Internet Connectivity
Voice and Internet traffic are segregated by the (BSC) which switches voice traffic to the (PSTN) and Internet traffic to a built-in Remote Access Switch (RAS) which in turn routes the Internet traffic to the Internet via a 10BaseT Ethernet interface.

Each (RAS) has two E1 ports for connecting to the BSC and can support IP based Internet routing for up to 60 subscribers at a time.

Note: The current version of TAWA provides a permanent Internet connection at a data rate of 70 kbps, which drops to 35 kbps when the telephone is in use and transparently goes back to 70 kbps when the telephone goes on-hook. A soon to be released version will be capable of a data rate of 300 kbps.
